Historian and publicist

Born in 1977 in Kharkiv. He is a permanent author and co-founder of the most popular historical website “Історична правда” (Historical Truth) and the author of historical projects for Suspilne broadcasting. 

After the Maidan, he accepted an invitation to join the team that attempted to revive the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory. In 2014, he served as Deputy Director, and in 2015-2016, he was a staff advisor to the Head of UINP. He is a participant in the working group for the “Museum of Freedom/Museum of Maidan” and an initiator of the Ukrainian-Polish Forum of Historians.

As a historian, he consulted the Great Ukrainians project on the Inter TV channel (2007-2008) and participated as a research editor and historical consultant in the production of 12 documentaries (2008-2011). Later, he was the author and host of the programs “Spirit of Time” and “Remember Everything” on TVi (2011).

He is the author of the first Ukrainian-language book about the Ukrainian aspects of the Katyn tragedy, The Parrot’s Hour (“Dukh I Litera”, 2011). This book was translated into Polish and in 2016 received the award “Best Popular Book of the Year” from the Przegląd Wschodni magazine. 

He conducted a literary recording and compilation of the memoirs of the third President of Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko, titled “Non-state Secrets” (“Folio,” 2013), and of the “field commander” of the Orange Revolution, Volodymyr Filenko, titled “The Score of the rEvolution” (“Folio,” 2021).

In 2016, two popular books were published: “War and Myth: The Unknown Second World War” (“KSD,” 2016), which is dedicated to the deconstruction of historical myths and for which Oleksandr is the editor-compilator and co-author, and his complete authored work – “Polish Deer, Obama, and the Collective Memory of Ukrainians: How to Overcome the Weight of the Past” (“Prava Lyudyny,” 2016), which tells about the transformation of memory conflicts.

In December 2023, his book “How Ukrainians Ruined the Empire of Evil” was released.

Since August 2016, he has been the author and host of Suspilne Broadcasting projects that air on UA: Pershyi, UA: Krym, UA: Kultura, and regional networks. He is the author of the script for the documentary TV series “Collapse. How Ukrainians Destroyed the Empire of Evil” (UA: Pershyi/Esse House Production, 2021) and ”Holodomor. Chronicle Keepers” (UA: Pershyi/Fresh Production Group, 2022) and ”What If Chornovil. The Best Scenario for Ukraine?” (2023, in progress).
