Event Highlights:

Day 1

Time: 11:00 – 17:00

Nonverbal Communication: The Power of Body Language and Voice (2h)

How do you deliver a presentation or a short pitch in an assertive, convincing, and captivating way? Would you like to improve the impact of your message, whether you are raising money for a startup or pitching an idea, a product, or a service to clients, providers, or colleagues?

Techniques to be covered:

  • Expression techniques, including gestures, body movements, positions, and postures
  • Voice modulation techniques
  • Sustaining eye contact
  • Utilization of silence
  • Consistency between verbal and non-verbal communication

We will also examine how non-verbal communication can be used as a tool to influence others in difficult contexts (such as lecturing to an unsettled group) and to optimize the impact of your message in stressful settings (such as job interviews and business negotiations).

Storytelling, with the participation of 2-5 volunteer storytellers (2h)

In storytelling, the listener imagines the story. In most traditional theatre or a typical dramatic film, for instance, the listener enjoys the illusion that he/she is mentally creating with the character or events described in the story. The role of the listener as he/she discovers the story being told by the storyteller is to actively create the vivid, multisensory images, actions, characters, and events—the reality—of the story in his/her mind, based on the performance by the teller and on the listener’s own past experiences, beliefs, and culture. Once completed, the story takes place and lives in the mind of the listener, a unique and personalized set of events as they were lived by the teller. The listener becomes, therefore, a co-creator of the story and a moviemaker.

Application of storytelling in business:

  • Describing the journey of a company or organization towards success
  • Highlighting how pitfalls were overcome and setbacks were managed
  • The power of storytelling to leave a lasting impression on listeners, even weeks or months later
